TagHive, a pioneering edtech company, is revolutionizing education through technology. Originating from Samsung’s in-house venture program, ‘C-Lab,’ the company has expanded across South Korea and India, developing smart learning platforms with global aspirations. We spoke with Pankaj Agarwal, Founder & CEO of TagHive, about his vision and the company’s journey. Pankaj holds a undergraduate degree from IIT Kanpur and has an MBA from Harvard.
TagHive enhances student-teacher communication with cutting-edge solutions. Headquartered in South Korea, its technology is deployed in over 10,000 classrooms, primarily in India. Looking ahead, TagHive aims to expand into Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, South Africa, and the United States.
Agarwal highlights the importance of strong partnerships in selecting new markets strategically. “Finding partners who align with our vision and demonstrate local leadership is key,” he explains. "Once identified, we introduce our solutions carefully, ensuring robust support and sustainable collaboration.”
A key focus for TagHive is addressing educational inequality. “Classrooms are diverse, with students at varying proficiency levels, yet teachers often lack the time and resources to address individual needs, widening learning gaps,” says Agarwal.
To combat this, TagHive provides Class Saathi – a real-time assessment platform tools that offer instant feedback to teachers and students. In a pilot study with 12,000 students in India, schools using ‘Class Saathi’—TagHive’s flagship solution—saw minimum scores rise to 42 points, doubling the 20-point baseline of non-participating schools.
To make education more engaging, TagHive integrates gamification into its solutions. “Students struggle to focus when learning lacks enjoyment, so we incorporate game elements to sustain engagement,” Agarwal explains. With a library of over one million questions, the platform fosters an interactive learning experience.
TagHive also employs AI-driven tutoring to personalize assignments, enabling teachers to tailor homework to each student’s needs. The AI tracks progress and provides real-time feedback, empowering students to learn effectively at home.
Innovation in education is not without challenges. Agarwal acknowledges that “teachers need time to adapt to new technologies.” To ease the transition, TagHive prioritizes continuous training and support.
Market differences between South Korea and India also shape strategy. “South Korea’s strict government regulations complicate school integration, while India’s privatized education sector allows for faster adoption,” notes Agarwal. Despite these hurdles, TagHive actively seeks partnerships to strengthen its presence in South Korea.
“In business, products matter, but people and partnerships matter more,” Agarwal asserts. While high-quality products are essential, the real challenge lies in seamlessly integrating technology into classrooms and ensuring its sustained use.
He shares two key execution strategies: ‘Bias for Action’—prioritizing rapid prototyping and market testing—and conducting firsthand field research. “When conducting on-the-ground research, always go in with specific questions,” he advises. These strategies, he emphasizes, stem from unwavering conviction and decisiveness.
Looking ahead, Agarwal is optimistic about TagHive’s trajectory. “In five years, we aim to expand into at least five more countries and surpass KRW 100 billion in annual revenue. Additionally, we aspire to establish ourselves as a leader in AI-driven education solutions.”
TagHive’s mission extends beyond selling products—it strives to create lasting social impact. TagHive is partnering with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) teams of corporates to help them Through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company delivers solutions that address systemic educational disparities. Rather than one-off donations like school supplies, companies prefer TagHive’s Class Saathi solution that focuses on improving student participation, academic performance, and attendance, ensuring long-term impact and sustainability.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, he offers this advice: “Before launching a business, ensure that the problem you’re solving is truly significant. Validate market demand before developing a product.”
With its commitment to transforming education through technology, TagHive is redefining learning environments worldwide. The future of education looks brighter with their innovations on the horizon.
